Splits and Smoothies Shakes!

August 22, 2011 by Danielle

I promised I would post my splits from my Friday morning adventure, so here they are! You can click the link to make the image larger.

My watch also provided me with a funny map that really illustrates how lost I got…but I didn’t want to post directions directly to my house on the interwebs…not that I don’t trust you guys…but ya know, safety first!

While I’m on the subject of my run, I thought I’d share what I did right afterward (aside from dash off to work). I made a green monster of course! As you might know, I really like green monsters and this time I decided to throw in some kale since I had it on hand. The recipe for this particular Green Monster (it should be called the Green Behemoth) is below…along with a smoothie related blast from the past. But first the recipe!

Green Monster

makes 2 servings (or one for a particularly voracious post run me)

2-3 stalks of kale, de-stalked

1 c. coconut milk (I used unsweetened Silk Coconut Milk)

1/2 c. frozen mixed berries

1 frozen banana

4 ice cubes

1 scoop vanilla whey protein powder (I love the Whole Foods brand)

2 tbsp. honey

1. Add milk, kale and banana to blender and blend until smooth. Make sure you blend it for about two minutes to ensure that kale is broken apart.

2. Remainder of ingredients to blender and blend until smooth.

Now as you might know, I love smoothies and I love Tone It Up, so last year I made a blog video that showed off my interpretation of their “smoothie shake” move. It’s a mildly embarrassing blast from my not-too-distant blogging past, but since we’re on the topic of smoothies, I thought you would enjoy it!
