Yesterday was the start of October-which means new beginnings…

Like the beginning of my sister’s 19th year (Happy Birthday Tay!)

Happy Birthday Lil Sis! You’re welcome for the attractive photo versus some of the others I could have chosen.

And the start of summer (finally?) in San Francisco.

Since I took a little break, I thought it was time to provide a new beginning to this blog andt fill you in on what I’ve been up to.

The Beach!

I went to Gulf Shores for a friend’s wedding which was amazingly fun. First off, I enjoyed warm (okay, wonderfully hot) weather instead of the cold and foggy San Francisco summer. More importantly, I got to celebrate a friend’s wedding with people I’ve known (and been friends with!) since fifth grade.

It’s always fun to get the gang back together.

The gang’s back in action.

There was a bit of (colder) beach action in San Francisco over the weekend, when Pat (my manfriend…who I should stop calling manfriend) and I went to Bolinas, a small beach north of San Francisco.

The Bum(mer)

With the fun times at the beach, there comes one bum(mer)- My glutes still aren’t strong enough to run…so I’m not. (Get the sub-header now? 🙂 )

When I started PT, I didn’t realize how much time it would take to recover and thought I would be up and running in no time. I also didn’t realize how not being able to run would affect me emotionally (cue the tiny violins). Correcting my running/sitting/standing form to prevent another injury and refraining from running has sparked a range of emotions including  frustration, the height of which came when I had an all-out head in the corner cry fest at the gym when I couldn’t do some of my physical therapy exercises correctly.

An accurate depiction (source)

I think the root of the problem is that even though I can still do my beloved circuits (minus the plyometric exercises), swim (would rather not) and elliptical (boredom city), these activities don’t provide me the same stress relief release that running does…so let’s just say that I’ve been a little crankier than usual, especially when I think about running.

But of course life isn’t all clouds and rain. There have been little glimmers of excitement-like when I actually feel my glutes engage (small victories!). Knowing that I’ll actually run again if I’m patient and I listen is also encouraging. There are bigger problems in the world, so in the grand scheme of things my butt is pretty lucky.

Anyway, that’s what’s up with me-what’s up with you?
